In the Detroit area, there are at least 3,700
people in need of emergency shelter on any given night. To meet
the need, there should be 1,400 more beds available.
v
There are less than 940 transitional housing beds
for over 5,086 homeless men, women and children per night.
v
Over 2,000 people live on the streets each night
in abandoned buildings or “double up” with family or friends.
v
Over 10,000 families in Wayne County will become
homeless at least once during the next year.
v
Families now constitute 26% of the number of
homeless persons per year.

The
Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries annually provides…
v
Over 1 million meals to the hungry, at seven
facilities in Detroit and Highland Park.
v
More than 146,000 nights of emergency lodging for
men, women and children who have no place to stay.
v
Emergency shelter, transitional housing and
substance abuse treatment for over 850 homeless women and
children and 1,700 men each year.
v
Transitional housing for 16 teen moms and their
children at Genesis House I
v
One Thousand inner-city children with a Christian
summer camping experience at Wildwood Ranch in Howell, Michigan.
v
Food, shelter and a strong spiritual emphasis to
more than 1,000 people daily.
v
Recreation and prevention programs for 450
children and youth in Highland Park and Detroit on a weekly
basis throughout the year.
v
More than 75,000 clothing items to the poor from
our clothing depot in Detroit.
v
Residential substance abuse treatment for over
1,000 men who have been incarcerated by the Michigan Department
of Corrections or the Wayne County Community Justice system.
Also, 120 indigent men referred to our facilities by the Bureau
of Substance Abuse
