Spiritual life services

The mission statement of the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries explains why we exist and what we accomplish when it states that we are “committed to sharing the gospel of the love of Jesus Christ, providing hope to the hopeless, disadvantaged, abused and homeless, men, women and children of our community. Spiritual Life services are at the heart of everything we offer at Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries. Participation in these services is voluntary but it is our prayer that they are offered in such a heart of love and in such a winning way as to bless those who are ready to take part in them. These services are available to current and past residents of our programs, neighborhood residents, Ministries’ staff and Board Members. Included among those services are:

  • Spiritual Assessment and Counseling of residents in treatment, shelter and transitional housing programs.

  • Devotions and Chapel Services, offered on a daily and weekly basis, for residents and staff. Because many of our residents have done many things they deeply regret, a key component of spiritual life counseling is to emphasize God’s willingness to forgive, the elements of seeking forgiveness from those one has wronged, and God’s ability to “make all things new”.

  • The Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries’ Choir (a key component of the substance abuse treatment aftercare services for graduates as well as a support to current clients). The DRMM Choir has performed at local churches upon their request and can include testimonies from Choir members. The Choir has also performed at numerous public functions throughout the Detroit area and is truly inspiring.

  • Bible Studies and spiritually-oriented Support Groups offered to the community. Alcoholics for Christ meetings are held weekly at the Oasis and Genesis House III facilities.

  • Seasonal Programs are developed for and presented to staff, residents, and board members. These include Christmas, Easter, Martin Luther King Day, and Mothers and Fathers Day.

  • Opportunities for Churches to become involved in ministering to residents of Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries.  For example, churches lead chapel and special programs within the Ministries and minister to graduates of our programs when they re-enter the community.

  • Leading Individuals to Christ for the first time and leading those who have fallen away back to Him.
